FIBROID

A benign tumor of muscular and fibrous tissues, typically developing in the wall of the uterus. It’s not a malignant or cancerous tumor. Usually, this happens during the preparation period for the baby. These tumors can be divided into three types depending on where they appear.

1.        Subserosal fibroids:

A tumor that may form on the outer wall of the uterus. About 55% of tumors come from the outside of the uterus.

2.    Intramural fibroids:

It can occur in the muscle between the outer and inner wall of the uterus. About 40% of uterine tumors occur in this area.

3.    Submucosal fibroids:

This is the inner wall of the uterus or endometrium. The changes of getting tumors in this area are very low. About 5% of uterine tumors occur. If there’s a fibroid in the endometrium of the uterus, there will be excessive menstrual bleeding. Fertility problems can occur. Submucosal fibroids are also the most likely to lead to pregnancy and fertility problems.

Causes:

·        Surveys show that uterine tumors can be caused by genetic, hormonal, or environmental influences. It’s also more likely to be inherited. Therefore, it’s better to check these at regular intervals.

·        These tumors are more common in women in their 20s and 40s. Once menopause is reached, the chances of getting uterine tumors are very low.

Symptoms:

·        There will be more pain and more bleeding during menstruation. Bleeding may last up to seven days in response to three days.

·        Infertility can occur without any complications.

·        If it is a large tumor, there’s pressure on the adjacent organ, which can cause some discomfort.

·        Frequent urination and constipation occur.

·        Lower back and leg pain may occur.

Who can get tumors?

People who are infertile are more likely to develop fibroid tumors. As such, tumors can occur in women who have only one child. They are more likely to develop tumors because they have more hormonal changes.

Tumors that affect child birth:

These uterine tumors are the cause of infertility in 5-10% of women who are treated for infertility. This will only show up when the scan is done. Submucosal tumors of the inner wall usually affect fertility.  If intramural tumors in a large size, it affects fertility. Other tumors do not affect fertility.

Treatment:

·        Medication and pills cannot dissolve these tumors. This tumor doesn’t dissolve automatically. Subserosal tumors do not affect fertility. It doesn’t require treatment. This should only be noticed if you have any problems with these tumors.

·        Intramural tumors can be easily removed by Laproscopic Myomectomy. Laproscopy involves surgically inserting small holes to avoid major injury and scarring. The time to recover and return home is also quick.

·        To remove submucosal tumors, a Hysteroscopic Myomectomy is performed. This treatment can be done in a day. There will be no pain. There are no side effects from the treatment. After these treatments, normalcy can return to life.

Tumor can be treated without surgery:

MRI- GUIDED FOCUSED ULTRA SOUND THERAPY. In this treatment, the patient is sent into an MRI device. Then, experts will look at exactly where the tumor is and how big it’s and plan treatment. Then, a focused ultra sound wave is transmitted. Typically, an ultra sound wave emanates from a center and expands. Let’s find out what’s where it goes. But, in this ultra sound treatment, the sound wave is transmitted from a very wide area. Experts plan to keep its focus on the uterine tumor. The sound wave that reaches focal point destroys the fibroid. Thus, for other organs, healthy tissues will not be affected. You can return home as an outpatient. However, this does not guarantee a 100 percent accurate solution. Some fibroid can be cured with this treatment. Therefore, for any type of tumor, what kind of treatment should be consulted with the Doctor to get results.

Preventive methods:

There are no preventive measures to prevent these tumors. But there are healthy foods and if there is enough exercise, it’s usually possible to take care of uterus related problems. Have greens, fruits, nuts and low calories foods. In addition, exercise is essential. Oily foods, fast foods, and high calorie foods should be avoided.
